⚠️ Important: As of 2026, all international travelers (excluding Chinese passport holders) must obtain a Tibet Travel Permit (TTP) to enter Tibet. This permit can only be issued by a licensed Tibet travel agency and requires an organized tour. XZZY Trip handles the entire permit process for all our customers — free of charge.

Documents Required

  • Valid passport (minimum 6 months validity)
  • Chinese visa (for most nationalities)
  • Clear passport photo page scan
  • Chinese visa page scan (if applicable)
  • Tour booking confirmation with XZZY Trip

Processing Timeline

  • Step 1: Submit documents — at least 20 days before travel
  • Step 2: Agency submits to TTB — 15 days before travel
  • Step 3: Permit issued — 5-7 working days before arrival
  • Step 4: Original permit sent to your hotel in Lhasa
  • Step 5: Present permit when boarding flight/train to Tibet

Do I need a Tibet Travel Permit?

Yes, all international travelers (except Chinese passport holders) need a Tibet Travel Permit to enter Tibet. This includes all nationalities including American, British, Canadian, Australian, European, and most Asian countries.

How much does the permit cost?

Can I travel independently in Tibet?

No. International travelers must join an organized tour with a licensed travel agency. Independent travel is not permitted. XZZY Trip offers both group and private tour options.

The Tibet Travel Permit is valid for the duration of your pre-arranged tour. It is restricted to the specific itinerary and dates submitted in the application.

What additional permits do I need?

For certain restricted areas such as Everest Base Camp, Mount Kailash, and Ngari Prefecture, additional Alien Travel Permits are required. XZZY Trip handles all these permits for you.
