Day 1

Depart Shanghai - Board the Train

No meals

Board the legendary Qinghai-Tibet Railway at Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station in the morning. Settle into your comfortable soft sleeper compartment. Watch the landscape transform from the skyscrapers of Shanghai to the rural countryside of central China as the train heads west.

Day 2

On the Train - Crossing China

A full day aboard the train crossing through several provinces. Pass through Zhengzhou, Xi'an, and Lanzhou. The scenery changes from farmland to the arid landscapes of Gansu province. Enjoy meals in the dining car and meet fellow travelers. The train's large windows offer excellent viewing opportunities.

Day 3

On the Train - Entering Tibet

The train reaches Xining and begins its climb onto the Tibetan Plateau. Cross the Tanggula Pass (5,072m), the highest railway in the world. The landscape becomes breathtakingly vast and beautiful. Spot wild yaks and Tibetan antelope from your window. Oxygen is supplied in the compartments.

Day 4

Arrive in Lhasa (3,650m)

No meals

Arrive at Lhasa Railway Station in the afternoon. Your guide and driver will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Rest and acclimatize to the high altitude of 3,650 meters. Stay hydrated, eat light meals, and take it easy on your first day on the Tibetan Plateau.

Day 5

Lhasa - Potala Palace & Jokhang Temple

Full morning exploring the magnificent Potala Palace, the iconic 13-story UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, visit the sacred Jokhang Temple, the holiest temple in Tibet. Walk the Barkhor kora circuit and explore the bustling market.

Day 6

Lhasa - Drepung & Sera Monasteries

Visit Drepung Monastery, once the world's largest monastery. In the afternoon, visit Sera Monastery to witness the famous monks' debating session. Also visit Norbulingka Summer Palace if time permits.

Day 7

Lhasa to Shigatse via Yamdrok Lake

Scenic drive across the Karo La Pass (5,010m). Stop at the turquoise Yamdrok Lake and the Karola Glacier. Visit Gyantse's Kumbum Stupa. Continue to Shigatse (3,900m). Free Day in Lhasa

You may choose to revisit the Barkhor Street for last-minute souvenir shopping, explore the lesser-known alleys of the old town, or simply relax at a local teahouse and soak in the spiritual atmosphere. Your guide can offer recommendations for optional activities and assist with any arrangements you may need.

Day 10

Depart Lhasa

After breakfast at your hotel, your guide will transfer you to Lhasa Gonggar Airport or Lhasa Railway Station according to your departure schedule, with plenty of time for check-in procedures.
