Day 1

Arrive in Lhasa (3,650m)

No meals

Welcome to Lhasa! Your guide will meet you at the airport or train station and transfer you to your hotel. Rest and acclimatize to the high altitude. Lhasa sits at 3,650 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest cities in the world. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, and take it easy. Your guide will provide a briefing about the exciting cultural journey ahead.

Day 2

Lhasa - Potala Palace & Jokhang Temple

Full morning exploring the magnificent Potala Palace, the iconic 13-story winter residence of the Dalai Lamas. This UNESCO World Heritage Site contains over 1,000 rooms filled with ancient murals, Buddhist relics, and gilded stupas. In the afternoon, visit the sacred Jokhang Temple, Tibet's holiest shrine housing the revered Jowo Shakyamuni statue. Walk the Barkhor kora circuit with pilgrims and explore the bustling market.

Day 3

Lhasa - Drepung, Sera Monasteries & Norbulingka

Visit Drepung Monastery (8km west of Lhasa), once the world's largest monastery with up to 10,000 monks. Climb to the top for panoramic views of Lhasa Valley. Visit Norbulingka Summer Palace with its beautiful gardens. In the afternoon, head to Sera Monastery for the famous monks' debating session (3-5 PM), one of the most photogenic and culturally rich experiences in Lhasa.

Day 4

Lhasa Free Day - Explore at Your Pace

A full free day to explore Lhasa independently. Options include: Tibet Museum (excellent exhibits on Tibetan history, culture, and art), a Tibetan cooking class (learn to make momos and thukpa), visit Ani Tsankhung Nunnery (a peaceful hidden gem dating back to the 7th century), or simply relax at a traditional sweet tea house on Barkhor Street.

Day 5

Lhasa to Ganden Monastery Day Trip (70km)

Day trip to Ganden Monastery (4,200m), one of the Great Three Gelug monastic universities founded by Tsongkhapa in 1409. The drive through the scenic Kyi Chu River valley takes about 1.5 hours. Explore the monastery complex spread across a mountain ridge offering spectacular views of the surrounding valleys and snow-capped peaks. Visit the main assembly hall and Tsongkhapa's tomb shrine.

Day 6

Depart Lhasa

After breakfast at your hotel, your guide will transfer you to Lhasa Gonggar Airport or Lhasa Railway Station according to your departure schedule, with plenty of time for check-in procedures.
