Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal. Your Nepalese guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in the lively Thamel district. Take the evening to explore the bustling streets filled with souvenir shops, trekking gear stores, and rooftop restaurants offering panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley.
Drive from Kathmandu to the Nepal-Tibet border at Gyrong. The scenic 6-hour drive takes you through beautiful Nepalese hills with terraced farmland and traditional villages. Complete exit formalities on the Nepal side and stay overnight at the border town.
Enter Tibet after completing Chinese border formalities. Drive through the dramatic Himalayan foothills to Shigatse, then continue south to Everest Base Camp via the Gawu La Pass at 5,200 meters for first breathtaking views of Mount Everest. Arrive at EBC for sunset over the highest peak on Earth. Overnight at guesthouse.
Early morning wake-up call to witness the spectacular sunrise over Mount Everest's north face. After a hot breakfast at the EBC guesthouse begin the drive back to Shigatse arriving in the afternoon for a well-deserved rest and comfortable hotel.
Visit Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse, the seat of the Panchen Lama, featuring the world's largest gilded statue of Maitreya Buddha standing 26 meters tall and cast from 115 tons of brass and gold. Then drive to Lhasa along the scenic Yarlung Tsangpo River valley arriving in the late afternoon.
Full day exploring the holy city of Lhasa. Visit the magnificent Potala Palace, the iconic 13-story winter residence of the Dalai Lamas perched on Marpo Ri Red Hill. In the afternoon visit Jokhang Temple, the holiest shrine in Tibet built in 647 AD, housing the sacred Jowo Shakyamuni statue. Walk the Barkhor kora circuit.
Visit Drepung Monastery, once the world's largest monastery housing up to 10,000 monks at its peak. In the afternoon visit Sera Monastery to witness the famous monks debating session from 3 to 5 PM where maroon-robed monks debate Buddhist philosophy with animated hand gestures and dramatic slapping sounds.
