Arrive in Xian, the ancient capital of China with over 3,000 years of history. Your guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. In the late afternoon visit the magnificent Ancient City Wall, the best-preserved city wall in China spanning 14 kilometers, and cycle or walk along its top for panoramic views of the old city.
Morning visit to the world-famous Terracotta Warriors Museum, one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century discovered in 1974. See the life-sized army of over 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses, and 150 cavalry horses built to protect Emperor Qin Shi Huang in the afterlife. Each warrior has unique facial features. Afternoon flight to Lhasa.
Arrive in Lhasa in the afternoon. Your Tibetan guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Rest and acclimatize to the altitude of 3,650 meters. Stay well hydrated and avoid strenuous activity.
Full day exploring the holy city of Lhasa. Visit the magnificent Potala Palace, the iconic winter residence of the Dalai Lamas, and the sacred Jokhang Temple housing the revered Jowo Shakyamuni statue. Walk the Barkhor kora circuit.
Scenic drive south from Lhasa across the Karo La Pass at 5,010 meters with spectacular views of the Nyenchen Tanglha mountain range. Stop at the stunning turquoise Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet's three holy lakes stretching 72 kilometers across the valley. Continue past the Karola Glacier to Gyantse to visit the magnificent Kumbum Stupa. Visit Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse then continue to Everest Base Camp via the Gawu La Pass at 5,200 meters for sunset over Mount Everest. Overnight at EBC guesthouse.
Early morning wake-up call at 5 AM to witness the spectacular sunrise over Mount Everest's north face. As the first rays of sunlight hit the highest peak on Earth, the mountain glows in shades of gold, orange, and pink creating an unforgettable spectacle. After a hot breakfast at the EBC guesthouse, begin the drive back to Shigatse arriving in the afternoon for a well-deserved rest and comfortable hotel with hot shower.
Drive from Shigatse to Lhasa along the scenic Yarlung Tsangpo River valley with its dramatic red cliffs, traditional whitewashed Tibetan farming villages with barley fields, and the wide braided river reflecting the sky. The 280-kilometer drive takes approximately 5 hours with photo stops along the way. Arrive in Lhasa in the late afternoon and check into your hotel. The evening is free for last-minute souvenir shopping at Barkhor Street or a farewell dinner.
After breakfast at your hotel, your guide will transfer you to Lhasa Gonggar Airport for your departure flight.
