Extended spring tour combining the Nyingchi peach blossom season with Lhasa's cultural treasures and a scenic drive to Yamdrok Lake.
Fly to Nyingchi, the low-altitude region of Tibet at just 2,950 meters. Your guide will meet you at Nyingchi Airport and transfer you to your hotel surrounded by lush forests of pine and cypress with snow-capped peaks in the distance. Take a gentle walk around the area to enjoy the fresh mountain air and beautiful scenery of eastern Tibet.
Full day exploring the spectacular Peach Blossom Valley in Nyingchi. During the spring season March to April the valley is covered in pink and white peach blossoms stretching across the hillsides with dramatic snow-capped mountains towering in the background. Visit local farming villages and enjoy the stunning scenery of this breathtaking region.
Visit the sacred Basum Tso Lake, a stunning turquoise jewel surrounded by snow-capped peaks and dense forests. Known as Tibet's Switzerland, the lake is considered one of the sacred lakes of Tibet and features a small temple on its island. Take a boat ride across the crystal-clear waters and hike to the temple for panoramic views.
Scenic drive from Nyingchi to Lhasa crossing the dramatic Milha Pass at 5,018 meters, one of the highest passes on the eastern route to Lhasa. The landscape transitions from lush forested valleys to high-altitude grasslands as you approach the holy city of Lhasa arriving in the late afternoon.
Full day exploring the holy city of Lhasa. Visit the magnificent Potala Palace, the iconic 13-story winter residence of the Dalai Lamas perched on Marpo Ri Red Hill containing over 1,000 rooms. In the afternoon visit Jokhang Temple, the holiest shrine in Tibet built in 647 AD, housing the sacred Jowo Shakyamuni statue. Walk the Barkhor kora circuit.
Visit Drepung Monastery, once the world's largest monastery housing up to 10,000 monks at its peak, and Sera Monastery to witness the famous monks debating session from 3 to 5 PM where maroon-robed monks debate Buddhist philosophy with animated gestures.
Scenic drive south from Lhasa crossing the Karo La Pass at 5,010 meters with spectacular views of the Nyenchen Tanglha range. Stop at the turquoise Yamdrok Lake for photos. Continue to Gyantse to visit the Kumbum Stupa before arriving in Shigatse.
Return drive to Lhasa from Shigatse along the scenic Yarlung Tsangpo River valley arriving in the late afternoon.
